To ski these chutes, you have to go through a back country gate at the top of Gold Hill proper (assume personal responsibility), then re-enter the permit area through gates/rope openings into GH 6 - GH 10 (when opened by the patrol). The chutes will not be open continually, so check for current information on the signs before you make the hike. The expert-only chutes go down below the skyline saddle and dump into Palmyra basin below. Palmyra Peak On the heels of Telluride’s opening of Black Iron Bowl to public access, the resort has gained approval for skiing and riding Palmyra Peak this winter. Located east of Black Iron Bowl, this unbelievable hike-to terrain includes well over 200 acres and almost 2,000 vertical feet on the north face of 13,320 foot Palmyra Peak. What can be considered some of the most spectacular in-bounds terrain in the country, the runs Tram Shot, Sunrise and Electric Shock drain into Upper Moraine, and Lower Palmyra Ridge which lead back into Black Iron Bowl. The access gate to Palmyra Peak (located at the upper edge of Mountain Quail) will be closed promptly at 1:00pm in season. Terrain ParksTELLURIDE VOTED #1 TERRAIN PARK IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS 2008 Who has the best terrain parks at any Rocky Mountain ski resort according to visitors to OnTheSnow.com? They're at Telluride, Colo. OnTheSnow.com, which attracts an audited 1.2 million individuals monthly during the winter, gave its visitors the opportunity to write reviews of all North American resorts and rank them in five categories. The reviewers were clear in their comments about Telluride that went beyond the parks: "The après-ski is also great; not only is the town full of great restaurants but it has every conceivable type of bar, from dive-bar, ski-bum hangouts and saloons, pool bars and brew pubs to cocktail lounges and champagne (and even oxygen) bars…There is every type of skiing from the very beginner to the best over-the-top skier… Fast lifts. You can wear yourself out in half a day…"
